HP Laptop Won’t Turn On

There are various reasons due to which the HP laptop won’t turn on. If the HP laptop is running out of battery or if the battery is damaged or unable to supply power to the laptop, then the laptop fails to get switched on.

Solutions to Fix HP Laptop won’t Turn On issue

Solution 1- Check the Battery and Power Supply 

In the beginning, you have to troubleshoot the battery issue. Check out the following points.

  1. If there is no power adapter, make sure that the battery is working properly. In case, it is damaged, then immediately replace it with a new one. 
  2. Then, try to restart the HP laptop. Else, you can also remove the battery and after that press the Power button and check if the issue has been resolved or not.
  3. In case, you use the power charger as the power source for the HP laptop, the first thing that you have to do is to check the charge port as well as the power cable. Ensure that there is no problem. 

If the AC adapter or charger cable is unable to power on the HP laptop, then it might be broken or damaged. In such a scenario, replacing it can be a good choice for you.

Also, you can use another AC adapter in order to turn on the HP laptop. Unfortunately, if the issue still persists, move to the next remedy.

Solution 2- Remove all the External Devices

As said earlier the external devices connected to the laptop can lead to this issue. In such a condition, you have to disconnect all the external peripherals from your device. 

In order to do so, first, turn off your HP laptop. After that, remove all the external peripherals from the laptop including USB drivers, docking stations, and printer. Wait for sometimes, again press the Power button and try to turn on the HP laptop.

If the device normally turns on, you have to find out the cause of the problem. For that, turn off the laptop. Next, try to connect one hardware device each time and turn on your device. 

In case, after plugging a device the HP laptop becomes turn off, that device is the reason. Now, in order to work it properly, update that driver to its updated version.

If even after pressing the Power button but the situation remains unchanged, try the next solution.

Solution 3-  Try to Hard Reset

Millions of users find this solution helpful. To perform the task, first, make sure that the HP laptop is turned off. 

In case, an external peripheral is connecting to the laptop, you are strongly advised to disconnect them all. Next, unplug the power charger from the computer as well as remove the battery.

Afterward, you should press and hold the Power button for near about 30 to 40 seconds and shut down the laptop. Then, plug in the power adapter. Press the Power button in order to turn on the HP laptop.

Finally, insert the battery back within the laptop. Reboot the device and if you are still dealing with the issue, go through the next solution.

Solution 4- Check the BIOS Setting

Though the solution is provided for Windows 10 OS, yet it is applicable to Windows 7 and Windows 8 versions also. 

To implement the task, press and hold down the Power button for 5 to 10 seconds to shut down the device. Wait for sometimes. Again press the Power button and turn on the HP laptop.

After booting, press and hold the F10 key until you see the BIOS settings window. Thereafter, press the F9 key and choose the Yes button. Afterward, press the Enter key to restore the BIOS to the default settings.

Close the BIOS window and reboot your HP laptop. Now, you can normally use the HP laptop.

Solution 5- Boot the Laptop into the Safe Mode

First, power off the device. Once the device boots successfully, immediately press the F8 key. On the next screen, navigate to the bottom and choose the Safe Mode option. After that, press the Enter key to run your device into the Safe mode.

Alternatively, tap on the Start menu. Enter ‘msconfig’ in the Search box and hit the Enter key. Double-click on the first search result to open the System Configuration window. 

Under here, select the Boot tab and afterward, select the Safe Boot option. Next, choose the ‘Minimal’ radio option.

Tap on OK and when you see the Restart option, click on it. Now, the HP laptop will start in Safe mode.

Solution 6- Update the Device Driver

The above five solutions are not workable for you? It is highly recommended to update the device driver to its best suitable version.

For that, go through the Device Manager by using the Start menu. Within the Device Manager, double-click on the device that you want to update.

Next, right-click on the device and choose the Update Driver option. On the next page, select the box next to the ‘ Search automatically for updated software’ option.

Wait for sometimes, depending on the file size and the updating procedure might take some time. When finished reboot your device and these solutions should fix the problem.
